VEDiA Killed the Radio Star

So I’ve been working on this Video Every Day in April project all this month, and in the first video I said that I was calling it Video Every Day instead of “Vlog” Every Day so that I could make a video about music or pie if I wanted. Everybody quickly came to the conclusion that pie is great and should be made on camera by me at some point.

So we’re at the end of April and I’m 10 videos behind, but I still got my marbles together and made a pie, carefully set up my camera to film every step, worked really hard to make the editing snappy, set it to an Andrew Bird song I’ve always wanted to use in montage, and put it on YouTube this evening.

Within a few minutes, I was getting feedback that the video wasn’t playing back in America.

Allow me to be the first to say What in the shit, YouTube?  What in the motherfucking shit is wrong with you?

So I dropped a few Hamiltons to get a storage upgrade to my WordPress account, so here you go.

I hope you enjoy this video as much as I enjoy pie.

  1. Huh. Earlier post didn’t post; I guess including a URL is bad.
Summary: Thanks, Molly, for doing VEDIA. Trying to keep pace got me blogging again; 16 posts this month. And: Yay, Pie!

  2. Greatness. Thanks much for posting here. I didn’t even know there was a Here until I saw that someone helpful (don’t you love finding helpful strangers? Doesn’t it make your day just a lot better to meet them, even just tangentally?) mentioned it in comments over at the VEDIA 19 video. Maybe he should have mentioned it in comments at the VEDIA 20 video. But when one is depending upon the kindess of strangers, one mustn’t be too fussy, must one?

You’re quite blogrolled, BTW. Thanks for April. Everyone should send Molly money for her graduation by buying some of her music for sale.

    • Matt,
I didn’t post a pointer to this video at VEDIA 20 because it’s blocked for me, and so I can’t see the comments interface either. I posted in VEDIA 19 because I figured that anyone who can’t see video 20 like me can’t see its comments either, so they would go looking for information in the last accessible video (19).

      • No worries.

I probably could have figured out a way around it to get to the comments to the blocked video, but that would have taken quite a bit more time.

What makes me sad is that the blockage totally disrupts Molly’s ability to see how the viewership of her VEDIA posts evolved over the month, because the last post is on a totally different site.

  3. I found out today one of my videos is blocked in Germany because of a copyright claim on something I believe is a royalty free piece. Maybe the specific recording has some sort of copyright. I’m not sure, but I shrugged and decided not to fight it as I don’t really care if it is visible in Germany (it’s only had 760 views in 5.5 years)

  4. Welcome to the stupidity with which the DMCA takedown notice can be and often is put to use. Added some cash to the tip jar as well to help pay for the upgrade. Also, what @Sven said. Not that the same thing can’t happen there, but they seem to be more rational and measured about such notices.
