Three things

1. I WON SONG FU. Paul & Storm were worthy adversaries and good sports. Assuming that Ken Plume is an honest man, I should get a shiny trophy, and also a trove of “goodies.” When said trophy and goodies arrive, I will dance like a monkey, and blog the gory details to you.

2. New video in the works. Should be up by the weekend, stay tuned.

3. I’m going home at the end of next week!
I’m indecisive and wanted other opinions on which books I should read over the summer. I’ll leave most of my books in storage, but I have room for 6 books out of all the books listed after the jump.

  1. Read A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius! Changed my life, no joke (and I did vote for it in the poll…just wanted to specify that, had we been required to rank the books, that would have been first on my list).

  2. A Confederacy of Dunces if very funny, and underneath all the funny very sad. Judging by the “voice” of your songs and your postings, I suspect you will like it a lot.

  3. Congrats on winning! Once again the people have spoken. Based on the book list, I have no recommendations for you.

  4. You would totally love “Lamb: gospel according to Biff, Christ’s childhood pal” by Christopher Moore. Just my 2 cents…

  5. Have you not read Catcher in the Rye? It’s a fantastic book if you can get into it. Honestly I don’t know any of the other books.

Sarah above me is right though you should read Lamb. I have a friend who doesn’t even believe in Jesus, but he loved Lamb and thought it had a lot of good messages. It’s funny as hell too.

  6. The World Without Us was interesting, but sort of dragged. Not even sure I finished it – and I’ll finish anything…

Congrats on Song-Fu! We had your back. :-)

  7. dang, I haven’t read any of those except Catcher in the Rye; I’ve been reading novels exclusively. Unless you already know Chuck Palahniuk, I’ve got no suggestions.

  8. Great Plains by Ian Frazier. It’s my favorite book about America. It’s like an fun beach read crossed with a 300 level history class. Come for the Custer, stay for the ladies’ hats in Nicodemus, enjoy the reverse nuclear holocaust and the gift of the horse.

  9. I voted for the three I’d read.

A.H.W.O.S.G. includes the following quote that you might find interesting:

“There is also bOING bOING, a ‘neurozine’ published by Carla Sinclair and Mark Fraunfelder, a plastic/gel/leather-new-wave-circa-1984-looking husband-and-wife team just up from L.A.”

As a web site, they’re still very much around, though Carla is no longer involved, and Mark has gotten some more editors. You probably remember getting a bunch of hints when they linked to your Still Alive cover.

  10. Any Kurt Vonnegut. Slaughter House Five. Just wanted to let you know that I will be competeing alongside in song fu . Good luck on the new challenge.

  11. Sure.

    SongFu is big.

Then again, so was Don Kirshner’s Rock Concert (ask your Dad).

But neither of them will likely last ‘for all of posterity’.

As for, ‘Saturday Night’s Alright For (Uke Cover) Fighting!’

Well, that just may be a different thing entirely.

    (or not)
